Stranger Things (2016)

Stranger Things is an excellent sci-fi/horror drama that indulges greatly in '80s and '90s nostalgia. It so brilliantly depicts the '80s that even younger generations are getting pseudo-nostalgia from the series. Meanwhile, the influences of Stephen King, Dungeons & Dragons, and Steven Spielberg are also evident in this series, providing ample fan service for role-playing and cinema enthusiasts. However, even if you're not a huge fan of the '80s or retro sci-fi and horror, Stranger Things remains appealing with its heartfelt stories of friendship, family, and the coming-of-age experience.

Stranger Things feels like a creative collision between Steven Spielberg and 80s music. It kicks off with a missing kid and spirals into a blend of alternate dimensions, telekinetic teens, and government conspiracy. The sci-fi drama is anchored by a cast of lovable misfits led by Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven, who is a scene-stealing powerhouse. The rest of the crew brings a charm that's equal parts Dungeons & Dragons and high-stakes drama.
