Not your mother’s Matlock, even if it stars Kathy Bates
A reimagining of the original Matlock series from the 80s, Matlock is part law procedural and part mystery. Kathy Bates plays the role of unassuming Madeline "Matty" Matlock, who is ostensibly only looking to get back into law after scoring a job for a prestigious law firm. But Matlock is no basic law procedural, even if there are cases every episode. You don't bring in Kathy Bates for one. Instead, this is a mystery, and absolutely everyone's a suspect. Think less Suits and more The Lincoln Lawyer or The Diplomat. Unassuming CBS procedural this is not. And that's a good thing.
