When her husband goes missing in the aftermath of a catastrophic military experiment, Ava s a "body retrieval unit" in the hopes of finding him alive. But her search takes a chilling turn when the corpses she's burying start showing signs of life.
A movie about grief, isolation and guilt - that happens to have zombies
It's very easy to say ‘it's a Daisy Ridley zombie movie,’ [but] there's a lot more going on. It's a movie about grief that happens to have zombies in it. It's a movie about isolation, guilt, redemption, set against this canvas of a larger-than- life situation. Those are the kind of movies - like ‘28 Days Later’ - that I've always loved: the ordinary person in an extraordinary situation. This is like that… on steroids!

A zombie movie that feels ‘horribly human’
The script is beautiful. It’s about grief and watching someone desperately trying to find an answer, even though she doesn’t know what that answer is going to be. The backdrop of the zombies represents this moment for [my character] Ava because she’s neither here nor there emotionally. Ava’s sole purpose is to find her husband. As a means to get to him, she s the body retrieval unit which volunteers to find people and notify families. The zombies look like our friends and family, so it's close enough to reality but in a way that doesn't feel too close. It feels horribly human.
