Based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba premiered in 2019. Set in Japan’s Taishō era, the series follows Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who comes home one day to discover his entire family has been killed by demons, while his younger sister, Nezuko Kamado, has been transformed into a demon. Desperate for vengeance and to save his sister, Tanjiro sets out on a mission to become a Demon Slayer.

Demon Slayer gained critical acclaim for its stunning animation, top-notch voice performances, thrilling fight scenes, and emotional storyline. Despite the anime’s strong performance, its success was eclipsed by the franchise’s first movie, Spirited Away to become the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time.

Although the movie was a major success, it is the only original movie in the franchise. The other two movies, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training, are compilation films rather than original stories and can be skipped.
