The Best Movies to Watch for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day

I mean…c’mon it’s literally in the name. If you haven’t seen Gary Marshall’s corny and cheesy ensemble film Valentine’s Day, you really need to. It’s one of those guilty pleasures you can’t help but love. The film centers on a group of Angelinos as they celebrate (or hate) Valentine’s Day. Trust me, it’s a great time and in every scene a new star pops up.

Crazy Rich Asians

In this globetrotting rom-com, a wealthy real estate heir takes his American girlfriend home to Singapore to meet his crazy rich family. What follows is classic rom-com shenanigans with a mom who doesn’t approve, a wild party, a bit of backstabbing, and ultimately, a happy ending. Plus, with the Singaporean setting, Crazy Rich Asians is a colorful, visually gorgeous movie.

My Bloody Valentine

In this indie Canadian horror film, a crazed killer stalks a small Nova Scotia mining town on Valentine’s Day. If you love holiday horror movies like Thanksgiving or Silent Night, Deadly Night, you’ll love 2009 remake, but trust me, the original is way more entertaining.

Red, White and Royal Blue

What happens when the son of the US president and a British prince secretly fall in love and begin having a hunky affair? Well, if you liked the sound of that first sentence then I recommend you watch Red, White and Royal Blue. Did I mention it was hunky? I did, right?

Meet Cute

In Meet Cute, rom-coms get blended with the iconic time-loop plot device made popular by Groundhog Day. Adding another layer to the film is the fact that Kaley Cuoco’s character is definitely flawed…and despite knowing better, she ends up creating a lot of problems, which makes for a more complicated and deep story.

Fifty Shades of Grey

To date, Fifty Shades of Grey is the highest-grossing Valentine’s Day release ever, grossing over $569 million. The film is based on the hit book and as most people already know, it’s about a twisted and erotic relationship between the wealthy Christian Grey and the young naive Ana, who becomes his contractual lover.
